Two Years Cancer Free!

I am almost to the two year mark for being cancer free and I truly feel blessed. It has not been an easy trip but wow so glad to be here. I am interested in continuing to find hepatocellular carcinoma survivors! Anyone who would like to stay in touch please do so. I believe we all can be a great support system for one another. I am always interest in hearing new stories and what types of chemo or treatment you have been through.

God Bless,
Cherie

Hi,
I am also a survivor of liver cancer related to Hepatitis C. Had a resection 3/12/2010. I did really well and returned to full-time work 2 months after surgery. Unfortunately, an MRI in January 2012 showed recurrence. I had RFA on 3 spots—successful at removing all the cancer that could be seen. I am going to be listed on the Liver Transplant List. They will burn off any new spots with RFA as they appear. I have one of the best Transplant surgeons in the U.S.—Dr. Ronald Busuttil at UCLA. I live about 3 hours from there, in the Palm Springs area. I feel better since the RFA on March 1st. I am back to working full-time. I am optimistic, although it does seem like a lot of people die from liver cancer. I feel fine right now; just get tired and I itch and my hands & feet turn bright red periodically. I am have a hard time making diet modifications. I do pretty well with low salt, but I sure like my ice cream! Take care.

Are you still on Nexavar? It made me feel like crap, like when I was on interferon & Ribaviron for a year about 6 years ago. I also had rectal bleeding (excuse me for being graphic!)I stopped the drug. I would not have been able to function normally, work, or enjoy life on Nexavar. How ‘bout you? Surviving Liver Cancer

I am interested in hearing from anyone who has survived liver cancer. I was diagnosed with a large tumor on the left lobe of my liver and had a liver resection in Oct 09.
I have received good CT Scans and reports this far and just wanted to see if anyone has survived this type of cancer for a long time. I wanted to hear about diet or any other recommendations that a survivor might have. I have heard things about sugar, caffiene and other items that I am unsure of and just wanted to see what others opinions are. All thoughts and comments are welcome.

Charliegirl09 threw a punch at your cancer.
Charliegirl09 sent you a prayer.

Weelp, I just tried to send you a reply, but it had a website addy in it, thus I received a message stating the reply would not be posted if I was advocating another website… soooo….

Well, there is more than one way to skin a cat. lol.

Do a web search search on ‘Kris Karr.’ She has some form of liver cancer and she is doing amazingly well. She advocates a living food diet and other wellness work. The changes she made in this regard have helped save her life. She has written several books on the subject.

Many blessings to you during your healing journey.

Hi. If you want to hear some good testimonials you may want to check out Cancer Treatment Centers of America. I’m not endorsing this particular hospital but they do specialize in very terminal types of cancer and have a really resourceful website. Nutrition is a complimentary form of treatment prog. as is immunotherapy. Using this type of multidisciplinary treatment plan to fight more aggressive forms of cancer has proven to be very effective to extending lifespan and remission cases. Research some of these types of multidisciplinary studies and put some thought into which may be the best for you. You may have to pay a fee to access some of the more scientific periodicals but I find it best to go with more reliable research than more relaxed studies. Also, you may find that not all doctors or oncologists are very open to nutritional and immunotheraputic treatments as most medical schools do not require nutrition classes to medical students and as such most USA medical school’s ciriculum is actually very “drug” based vs. nutritional and immunotheraputic. I invite you to also research the educational background of our treating physicians on your own. I did so when my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer and was VERY surprised to discover such a lack of understanding how nutrition affects cancer. It has not been until recently that the medical community has opened itself up to consider how immunotherapy and nutritional plans commpliment the effectivity and/or lack thereof, of traditional medical treatment to cancer. You may also want to consider that for most aggressive cancers, the drugs used for chemo have essentially remained the same for 50+ years and are used across the board for a buffet of different cancers.

You’ll have to really be careful and weed through a lot of hokis-pokis snake-oil folks but after reading and cross-referencing for a bit you’ll begin to get the sense of what is what. If you get names of given researchers I found them VERY open to emailing me and refering to other colleagues research at Duke, Mayo, U of M, etc. Start reading up on the history of medicine and you will be surprised to find that the root of medicine has been herbs, roots, barks, mushrooms and other types of nutritional medicine and yet today if Phizer or other large pharmecuticals don’t endorse it, it is considered nonsense. Read up on how your body’s defense mechanisms work and the function of biochemicals at a cellular level. This will also help you understand how cancer forms, spreads and what feeds it at a molecular level.

I hope this is not overwhelming information. I shared it because you sounded like someone who likes to take the helm over their medical care.

Good health to you now and always!

Thank you for the helpful posts and I will definitely check those out!

I have HCC - Primary liver stage 4. I havent survived long term yet (diagnosed March 2010) but plan too. Transfered care to Sloan Kettering in NYC. Great group of people up there. They suggested Maitake Mushroom extract to build the immune system and also told me about a book called anticancer. It addressed ways you can help your body fight the cancer in addition to conventional treatments. It addresses topics such as; supplements, diet, exercise, mind-body. I just picked it up and only a few chapters in but a very informative book. I never stopped working full time, staying active and laugh as much as I can!

God bless!

Sorry (FYI) the above is in addition to coventional treatments I’m also having done not just the above alone…

I’m a pancreatic cancer survivor but had spots on liver and lungs after surgery. I took no chemo or radiation but relied on nutrition and prayer as well as exercise and breathing exercises. After a few months, “no evidence of recurrent or residual disease”. I found Dodie Osteen’s book, “Healed of Cancer” (untreatable metastatic liver cancer in 1981 and she’s well today) most helpful as well as Bill Henderson’s “Cancer Free….”. I’m glad to have you email me.

Not a survivor yet! recently diagnosed with HCC 11/18/2010. was going for treatment (TACE and RFA) but had a heart attack. Treatment resked. for Feb. 2nd and 3rd. My cancer is unresectable, as I have cirrhosis caused by Hepatitis C.
I hope things work out for you.
I am looking for as much info as possiable to get my hands on too!

Good luck to you.

Hi, I am heading into my 5th cancerfree year. I had a resection of a 10 cm tumor in 2007. I spent so much time trying to find survivors. I am doing well and feel very blessed.

Sorry, I haven’t responded sooner. I actually have been off my chemo since last December and back to the fast pace of being working mom and wife. I have been cancer free since my surgery almost two years ago. You and I are very lucky! I see the two years that I have as one of the biggest blessings I have ever had! Sometimes it is just hard to realize it and cancer wakes you up quick! You are an inspiration to me and I hope continue your succcess. Please stay in touch and let me know how you are doing! Sincerely, Cherie

glad to hear you are well. let us stay in touch.
